OFDMA is the access method that is used in the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) cellular system in order to accommodate multiple users in a given bandwidth. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation method that divides a channel into multiple orthogonal narrow bands so that they do not interfere with each other differs. Each band is divided into hundreds or even thousands of 15 kHz wide subcarriers.



The transmitted data is divided into multiple lower speed bit streams and modulated onto the sub-carriers. Time slots is used to the data transmitted in each sub-channel data stream (Fig. 5) package. This technique is highly spectrally efficient, allowing very high data rates. It is also less affected by multipath effects.

OFDMA know a group of subcarriers to each user. The sub-carriers are among the large number of subcarriers using OFDM for LTE device. The data can be voice, video, or other reasons. It was is then transmitted in the time segment, over a number of the allocated subcarriers.


To implement OFDMA, each user of a group of related subchannels and time slots is allocated. The smallest 12 and designated group of subchannels called a resource block (RB). The system assigns the number of RB per user if required.
